Getting Started with WordPress

Overview

In the Edly ecosystem, your public-facing storefront, marketing home, course catalog, and student registration portal are powered by an integrated WordPress application known as the Discovery Site.

This system bridges standard Content Management System (CMS) features with your learning management engine. Changes made here, such as modifying landing pages, adding blog articles, or registering course descriptions, sync automatically to guide prospective learners from initial discovery down to account registration and check-out.

Step 1: Accessing the Administration Dashboard

To modify your marketing site, you must authenticate into the WordPress administration interface using your assigned provider credentials.

Procedures:

  1. Open a new web browser tab.
  2. Navigate to your marketing site's dedicated login URL path by appending /wp-admin to your core domain (e.g., https://www.yourdiscoveryplatform.com/wp-admin).
  3. Input your administrative email address/username and password.
  4. Click Log In.

Upon verification, the system routes your profile onto the primary WordPress Dashboard view, presenting your site's health summaries and the main content navigation bar.

Step 2: Customizing Site Design and Language

Before populating course data, configure your site's base global variables to match your institution’s branding framework.

Altering Global Appearance:

  1. From the left-hand navigation sidebar, go to Dashboard > Appearance.
  2. Click Customize.

  3. The live editing preview window opens. Here you can customize global assets:
    • Site Identity: Upload your brand's master high-resolution Logo and matching square browser Favicon icon.
    • Color Schemes & Typography: Modify default global text fonts, primary brand colors, and global footer copyright labels.

  4. Click Publish at the top of the editing panel to push visual revisions live.

Setting Your Platform Language:

  1. Navigate to you site's Edly Panel, and then click on LMS from the top navigation bar
  2. Then, click on the top righ corner of your account's icon
  3. Click on Account from the dropdown menu selector block.
  4. Scroll down and then find Site language under Site Preferences
  5. Click Edit and select your preferred localized language dialect.
  6. Click Save. The system instantly updates all structural player components, dashboard headings, default buttons, and default error alerts to use the selected language.

Step 3: Coordinating Your Assets (The Media Library)

The central Media Library houses the graphic assets, marketing slides, layout banners, and course introductory videos used across your various pages.

Procedures:

  1. Select Media > Library from the sidebar menu layout.

  2. To append fresh resources, click Add New and drop your images or multimedia assets directly into the browser target drop zone.
  3. Directory Controls: Use the grid or list toggle controls to adjust your view, or leverage the date filters and text search boxes to find specific files.
  4. Cross-Platform Portability: Media files hosted in your Discovery Site library generate absolute web URLs. You can copy these direct file paths to embed marketing elements seamlessly within your Open edX Studio course units or automated email notifications.

Step 4: Creating Essential EdTech Landing Pages

An effective educational landing platform requires a structured set of core informative pages. To modify or build a page layout, navigate to Pages > All Pages and select your target entry (e.g., Homepage, About Us, Contact).

Mandatory Core Pages Checklist:

  • The Homepage: Houses your core brand value proposition, promotional marketing carousels, highlighted subject areas, and explicit Call-to-Action (CTA) enrollment buttons.
  • About Us: Shares your institution's core pedagogical mission statement, structural achievements, and instructor team biographies.
  • Courses/Programs Listing: Functions as an automated dynamic search engine fed by your integrated catalog data to let prospective students browse your curriculum offerings.
  • Testimonials Feed: Displays verified feedback loops, text snippets, and quote cards left by past alumni to drive user validation and registration trust.

Step 5: Understanding the Learner Registration Funnel

Once your site architecture is published, the site establishes an automated account-creation path connecting directly to the LMS database tracking matrices.

  1. Discovery & Action: A prospective learner browses your site layout, identifies a course run, and clicks the public Register button.
  2. Form Submission: The action routes them to a clean, integrated account profile creation form. They input their name, username, password, and contact criteria.
  3. Security Handshake: Upon submission, the backend server registers their row, holds their course tracking map in a provisional state, and automatically despatches a cryptographic activation link to their email address.
  4. LMS Activation: The user clicks the activation link inside their inbox. The platform validates their identity string, turns on their system access flags, and opens their dashboard player interface to let them purchase or enter course material.
